Haydn. String Quartet in G minor Op.20 No.3
Ligeti. String Quartet No.2
Brahms. String Quartet in B flat Op.67
The two string quartets of Ligeti have formed a central plank of the Amsterdam-based Dudok Quartet’s repertoire. The Second Quartet is one of his most significant and compelling works – a sort of amalgam of the innovative techniques he used over a period of many years. Its highly original quartet sonorities include a movement inspired by the notion of malfunctioning machinery, such as we find in the assembly-line mayhem of Chaplin’s ModernTimes.
