Castalian String Quartet
Venue: John Innes Conference Centre
Janáček. Quartet No.1 (‘Kreutzer Sonata’)
Haydn. Quartet in F, Op.77 No.2
Dvořák. Quartet in A flat, Op.105
The Castalian String Quartet have already built up an enviable reputation for their witty and insightful performances of Haydn. Here, they play the composer’s last completed string quartet, as well as the last quartet of Dvořák, with its irresistibly lively ‘furiant’ second movement. Janáček’s ‘Kreutzer Sonata’ quartet was inspired not by Beethoven’s famous violin sonata, but by Tolstoy’s novella of the same name.
